1. What is the best thing about being a student at Aarhus University?

Mainly, I appreciate that my study programme is very focused. And, it is great that there are so many international study programmes here.

2. What worries did you have before applying?

In general, I worried a bit about moving to a new town and country. Also, whether the study programme would be what I expected and, if I would meet the requirements of a study programme in History, as I have a degree in Art History.

3. What is the biggest difference between studying at Aarhus University and where you studied before (please include where you studied before)?

I studied at the University of Vienna before and there is quite a big difference in the way the classes are conducted. In Vienna, we had more classes per semester but there was less weakly preparation. Weekly reading was required mainly for “exercises”, and “seminars” concentrated on presentations and on formulating the topics and research questions of subsequent written assignments. Here, I would say that each class is a combination of both. Discussions and group work play a bigger part here and are opportunities to practice to formulate theses and arguments.

4. What would you like to have known before applying?

I can't really say - maybe, to know more about the teaching methods and about how the classes are structured, before the start of the first semester.

5. Please give 3 good tips to keeping living costs down as a student in Denmark

I think it is a good advice to register early for student housing, maybe already when applying for a study programme, in order to find a convenient accommodation. Getting around by bike saves transportation costs and there is good infrastructure for biking. There are dumpster diving groups based in Aarhus on Facebook which I would recommend joining.

6. What is it like to study and live in Aarhus and in Denmark?

I like the nature around Aarhus very much. I would say, the city offers a calm study environment as well as entertainment in a good proportion.

7. What are your plans after you graduate?

I am equally interested in working in a museum or doing research.
