1. What is the best thing about being a student at Aarhus University?

The best thing here at Aarhus University is the community. I love that all students are friendly, they regularly meet up in study groups as well as in Friday bars. What was amazing for me is that teachers are part of that too! Everyone is simply nice and always ready to have some fun or help you.

2. What worries did you have before applying?

I was actually not worried at all. I’ve seen the pictures and syllabus, so what was there to worry about?

3. What is the biggest difference between studying at Aarhus University and where you studied before (please include where you studied before)?

I finished my bachelor in Prague, Czech Republic. The major difference for me was the friendly vibes here in Denmark. In Czech Republic you’re encouraged to address your professors with their academic titles and behave very officially. Aarhus is different, your teacher is basically your smarter friend who is ready to share his/her knowledge.

4. What would you like to have known before applying?

I would have like to known some more details about particular classes.

5. Please give 3 good tips to keeping living costs down as a student in Denmark

#1 I love checking “tilbudsavis”; it is like a weekly game for me and my friends. Just don’t be ashamed, everyone does it here. #2 Pre-drinks and dinners at home; again, everyone does it, that is why the town does not get crowded around midnight. #3 Bike; although Aarhus is not as flat as one would expect, it has never been a problem for me to bike anywhere. I believe I took the bus four times in the one and a half year I have been here.

6. What is it like to study and live in Aarhus and in Denmark?

It’s definitely a huge change, bigger than I expected. It’s chilled and friendly but you have to fight for many things alone.

7. What are your plans after you graduate?

I would like to get a job… So far I’m not sure where. Denmark is, however, on the top of my priority list.
