Admission to the Master's Programme in European Studies

IMPORTANT!

New online application system
Aarhus University is in the process of developing a new common online application system effective from the 2012 intake. We expect to launch our new system from 1 February 2012.

We do not accept applications for Master’s degree programmes until this system is implemented. All paper applications received will be rejected and returned to sender. Our current self-service application system cannot be used either.

Admission information
Our application pages will be updated from now until February 2012. Thus, in the time ahead, you may notice we are making a mess – for which we apologise. Specific information about admission requirements, selection criteria, documentation requirements, etc. will be moved to the individual admission pages to be found in the Study Guide. When we open for applications from 1 February 2012, all admission pages will be up-to-date.

Selection criteria

As the Master’s programme only admits a limited number of students each year (40 in 2011), meeting the admission requirements does not in itself guarantee admission to the programme.

In evaluating qualified applicants, the admissions committee assesses each applicant on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. Academic background (75%)
  • Average mark (i.e. GPA) – Bachelor’s degree (25%)
  • Average mark (i.e. GPA) – relevant courses (25%)
  • The number of relevant courses* (measured in ECTS) included in your Bachelor’s degree course of study (25%)

* Relevant courses include courses within the subject areas of Cultural Studies, International or European Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Political Science and other related areas.

Please note that marks/grades obtained after the application deadline will not be included in the GPA.

The admissions committee assesses each applicant on the basis of the information provided by diplomas, transcripts and the statement of relevance.

2.   Other relevant experience (25%)

  • Relevant work experience**
  • International, cultural or organizational experience

** Work experience in e.g. NGO's, international organisations, private companies, the public sector.

The admissions committee assesses each applicant on the basis of the information provided by the CV and other relevant documentation.

Documentation

You must submit the documents specified below along with your application. If the required documents are not included, the university will be unable to process your application. Original documents in English, German, French, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian will be accepted. Original documents composed in any other language must be accompanied by certified copies of official translations into English. Translations of the documents into English must always be performed by a certified translator.

Important! The diplomas and transcripts enclosed must be officially certified copies. Certified copies require original stamps and signatures as proof of their authenticity (e.g. certified by the applicant’s school or university, an embassy or consulate).

1) Required documentation of a relevant Bachelor’s degree:

All applicants must submit the following:

  • Certified copies of diplomas with transcripts of examination subjects and results for each examination (a diploma without specific examination results is not sufficient).
  • Explanation of the marking (grading) scale used to assess your Bachelor's degree

New times at au.dk/en

The university’s website is being redesigned. The design and content will therefore change, and you may experience for a while that old and new sections are mixed together, and that the content is not in its usual place.

We hope that the new website will make up for any inconvenience, and that you will enjoy greater coherence throughout and find the website simpler to use.

Why are we making a mess?

In the time ahead, you will notice a mixture of old and new designs in the pages on the website.

In spring 2011, Aarhus University’s nine main academic areas were reduced to four, and the fifty-five departments became twenty-six. This was to unify the organisation and to strengthen the university’s interdisciplinary approach. We are now following suit by restructuring the entire website to ensure more coherence in the content and design.

Such an exercise takes time – and we hope you will bear with us!

Take a short cut

Under the HOT KEY at the top right, you can find links to the most frequently used content on the website, as well as the two new universes for staff and students.

Where can I find it?

Use the new mega dropdowns to get an overview of the website’s content. They open when you run your mouse over the navigation at the top.
