IMPORTANT - Application with a view to commencement of studies 1 September 2012

Guide to Admission 2012

This year we are launching a new digital admission system, in which the entire application process will take place online. The digital admission system is divided into several phases where you enter your personal information, information about your home university, which study programme you are applying for and other relevant information. Please notice that the information you are requested to state, and what documents you must attach, may vary. This depends on what study programme you are applying for, your nationality and your qualifying educational background. It's a good idea to have electronic versions of all your documents ready when applying, so you can attach them to your application right away.

You should be aware of the fact that once you have submitted your application, you cannot make changes to it or upload further attachments. If you have not completed the qualifying education at the time of your application, it will be possible to have your application reopened at later date in order to attach further documentation (diploma and English tests). If this applies to you, you will receive an email concerning the matter.

It is important that you keep yourself informed about the specific admission requirements to the study programme you are interested in, in order to meet various deadlines and to ensure that you attach the necessary documentation for us to process your application. The application deadline may differ depending on which program you applying for. You can read more about application deadlines here

Aarhus University only accepts online applications. All paper applications will be rejected and returned to sender.

Admission information

All "admission requirements" pages in the Master's Guide are currently in the process of being updated. Thus, in the time head, you may notice we are making a mess, for which we apologize.

Application procedure for English language Master's programmes

After the application deadline, your uploaded application is submitted to the department for an academic assessment to determine whether or not your academic background meets the admission requirements as described in the academic regulations of the programme in question.

To facilitate our assessment of your qualifications, you must submit documentation describing the general and specific contents of your Bachelor's programme, preferably including course descriptions, curriculum and examination syllabus. Without this documentation, the department may not be able to assess your application and may thus reserve the right to reject your application on the basis of lack of information and documentation.

Please note that the staff of AU Studies Administration is unable to determine in advance whether or not you are qualified for admission. A detailed individual academic assessment is only made by the departmental admission board in connection with the yearly (or half-yearly) round of admissions.

It is possible to apply for admission before you have completed your Bachelor's degree programme, but a transcript of exam results from the BA/BSc programme up to the time of application must always be included in the application, even if the BA/BSc diploma has to be submitted after the deadline. If you are considered qualified for admission, you will receive a letter of admission conditioned on the completion of your BA/BSc programme before the commencement of studies. Documentation of your completed Bachelor's degree must be uploaded not later than 1 July.

It is also possible to apply for admission before you have taken your English language test. Documentation of your test results must be uploaded not later than 1 July.

If at all possible, non-EU/EEA/Swiss applicants should upload all required documents along with the application owing to the time required by the Danish Immigration Service to proces your application for a study residence permit in Denmark, which may take up three months after you have received your admission offer, fulfilled all requirements and paid your tuition fees. It your own responsibility not to accept an admission offer, if the time is too short to obtain a study residence permit in Denmark.

All applications from non-EU citizens will automatically be assessed with a view to a possible nomination for a tuition waiver or scholarship. Please note that applicants cannot apply for a tuition waiver/scholarship and that the number of tuition waivers/scholarships is very limited.

Feedback dates

In mid May, non-EU citizens will receive a letter regarding admission or rejection, including the decision regarding tuition waivers and scholarships.

EU citizens will receive their admission or rejection letter in early May.

All applicants considered qualified for admission or conditional admission must confirm their admission offer on our Self-service system not later than 1 June.

Checklist

This checklist applies to all applicants, unless other documentation requirements are stated on the specific application page. In that case, please follow the instructions on the specific application page instead.

For applicants holding a foreign degree, the following documents must be submitted with the application form:

  1. Diplomas showing examination subjects and results for each examination (a diploma without specific examination results is not sufficient). These documents must be official certified copies.
  2. Transcript of records (if you have not yet received your final diploma). These documents must be official certified copies.
  3. Course descriptions briefly describing the contents of your specific BA courses or other information that will contribute to describing the contents of your Bachelor's programme x
  4. Explanation of the marking (grading) scale used in examinations during your Bachelor's programme.
  5. Curriculum vitae
  6. Documentation of your citizenship (e.g. copy of passport)
  7. Copy of your permanent residence permit in Denmark (if applicable)

If the documents are not in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish, they must be accompanied by certified copies of official translations into English.

The copies of documents mentioned in 3.-7. above do not need to be officially certified.

New times at au.dk/en

The university’s website is being redesigned. The design and content will therefore change, and you may experience for a while that old and new sections are mixed together, and that the content is not in its usual place.

We hope that the new website will make up for any inconvenience, and that you will enjoy greater coherence throughout and find the website simpler to use.

Why are we making a mess?

In the time ahead, you will notice a mixture of old and new designs in the pages on the website.

In spring 2011, Aarhus University’s nine main academic areas were reduced to four, and the fifty-five departments became twenty-six. This was to unify the organisation and to strengthen the university’s interdisciplinary approach. We are now following suit by restructuring the entire website to ensure more coherence in the content and design.

Such an exercise takes time – and we hope you will bear with us!

Take a short cut

Under the HOT KEY at the top right, you can find links to the most frequently used content on the website, as well as the two new universes for staff and students.

Where can I find it?

Use the new mega dropdowns to get an overview of the website’s content. They open when you run your mouse over the navigation at the top.
