Apply as a free mover
How to a apply as a free mover (not bilateral exchange)
General admission requirements
Aarhus University welcomes international students to apply on individual basis as free movers.
This applies to foreign students who wish to take only a few courses at Aarhus University, or who plan to study in Aarhus for one or two semesters.
- Find courses in the AU Course Catalogue
Free movers are permitted to participate in courses and examinations. However, they are not registered as regular university students and are not entitled to complete a university degree at Aarhus University, nor are they able to convert their free mover student status into that of a regular full-degree student.
Free movers may apply for courses at Bachelor's as well as Master's level. However, please note that the majority of our courses in English - or other languages than Danish - are only available at Master's level. Therefore we recommend that free mover applicants have already completed at least two year of full time university studies, or hold a BA degree.
Language requirements
Free movers are expected to meet the same requirements applying to regular students (view AU language requirements applying to regular students). Free movers therefore need to provide documentation of their subject levels in applicable subject; English for all department. Mathematics if applying to the School of Business and Social Science. Mathematics, chemistry and physics if applying to the department of science. A good working knowledge of academic English is required, and a passed TOEFL or IELTS test with a satisfactory result will improve your application.
